Just a quick video I took of Oscar our Asian Short Clawed Otter playing on Xmas Day! More videos will be coming soon! A lot of people ask me how I got an Otter – I used to work with two Otters (Mia & Smudge who you can see in my other videos) and was lucky to meet some great people involved in the Otter specialist community. I would suggest to anyone interested in Otters to visit otterjoy.co.uk and also read as much as you can, visit Zoos and Aquariums and watch their behaviour, suggets ideas to their keepers and generally get to know this incredible species first….. feel free to message me or comment with any questions. Oscar is hand reared and is a rather bizarre litle Otter in that he doesnt like the company of other Otters and he doesnt swim! He is very fiesty these days and loves to play fight. Yes, he does grab hold of our fingers and tug. He instigated it, and we trust him enough to let him. A lot of people wonder why we talk so much when we are around him. Otters are very vocal creatures, and they do remember words a phrases very quickly. We believe it is very important in developing a good bond with them. We are very lucky to have Oscar (thanks to some very special people) – but, this is us, how we communicate with him, our experience with him, and hopefully we can share that magical experience with you. He knows certain words and phrases – ‘where is it’ he knows as a play term involving wrestling with our hands for example. We recognise that while human beings …
